Second 50

Welcome to the Possibilities Lab

Karen Robertson

The Possibilities Lab is a space where Second 50 women come together to explore ideas, imagine what is next and help one another bring meaningful possibilities to life.

What do you do with an idea that will not leave you alone?

Perhaps it is a business concept, a creative project, a career shift, a community initiative or a personal dream. Perhaps it is not yet a fully formed idea, but simply a feeling that something new is ready to grow.

Wherever you are on your path — curious, just beginning or already building — the Second 50 Possibilities Lab gives you a place to explore what might come next without having to work it all out alone.

The Lab is led by me, Karen Robertson, Possibilities Lab Leader and Second 50 Co-leader. It is a dynamic Zoom circle, a practical collaborative space and diverse brains trust where curiosity is encouraged, experience is valued and ideas are shaped collectively.

There is no pressure to arrive with everything figured out.

You can bring a possibility of your own, contribute your thinking to someone else’s, or simply join conversations that spark new ideas, connections and perspectives.

Where possibilities become clearer

The Possibilities Lab grew from women wanting a space to explore ideas, imagine what might be possible and support one another to take meaningful steps forward.

It is designed both for women who enjoy thoughtful, engaging conversations and for women who have something they want to create, test or bring to life.

That possibility might be:

  • a new business or service
  • a creative or writing project
  • a career shift or next chapter
  • a community initiative
  • a purpose-led pursuit
  • a personal goal or long-held dream

Inside the Lab, ideas are explored rather than judged. Assumptions can be tested, questions can be asked and you can tap into the collective wisdom and relationships within the group.

Sometimes a woman leaves with greater confidence in her idea. Sometimes she changes direction. Sometimes she realises that an exciting possibility is not quite right for her life after all.

All of those outcomes are valuable. The aim is not simply to ask: “Is this a good idea?”. It is also to ask: “Is this possibility genuinely right for me, my values and the life I want to create?”

The power of the brains trust

At the heart of the Possibilities Lab is its brains trust: a diverse group of Second 50 women who bring their knowledge, experience, curiosity, questions and connections into the room.

Members come from many different backgrounds, including business, corporate life, the creative industries, health, government, coaching, community work and home.

That diversity is what makes the conversations so interesting and valuable.

Some women come with possibilities they are actively building. Others come because they love contributing ideas, sharing experience and supporting women to move forward.

This reciprocity is central to the Lab.

You do not need to have a project of your own to belong. Many members find that they gain just as much from contributing to another woman’s possibility as they do from exploring their own.

Three ways to engage in the Lab

There are three ways to take part.

1. Join the Possibilities Lab Circle

The Circle is the heart of the Lab.

These Zoom gatherings bring women together for engaging conversations, fresh perspectives, useful connections and mutual support.

You can listen, contribute, share your experience and take part in discussions about the possibilities other women are exploring.

2. Become a Possibility Owner

A Possibility Owner is a woman with an idea, project, business, dream, goal or new direction she would like to explore or move forward.

Possibility Owners can share their possibility within the Lab and receive thoughtful feedback, practical insight and encouragement from the community.

Their possibilities often become the spark for rich conversations, creative thinking and new connections — not only for the woman presenting, but for everyone involved.

You do not need a polished plan. You simply need something you are willing to explore.

3. Join the Action Lab

The Action Lab is a smaller, more focused space for women who want additional accountability, coaching and momentum.

It is designed to support women who are ready to take more deliberate action towards bringing a possibility to life.

The Action Lab has an additional fee.

You do not have to work it all out alone

A possibility often begins as something small: a question, a hunch, an idea that keeps returning or a feeling that there may be more ahead. The Possibilities Lab gives that possibility somewhere to go. It gives you women to think with, questions that help you see more clearly and support to take the next meaningful step.

You do not need to arrive with certainty. Just bring your curiosity, your experience and your willingness to explore what might come next.

About Karen Robertson

Possibilities Lab Leader and Second 50 Co-leader

Karen is a marketing strategist, entrepreneur, author, coach and facilitator with almost forty years of experience creating ventures, navigating career pivots and helping other people turn ideas into action.

Her career has taken herfrom multinational advertising agencies to co-founding Australia’s first email marketing business, creating interactive children’s books and apps, working as a solopreneur and coaching young people in confidence and resilience.

Karen brings not only professional expertise, but also the insight that comes from following possibilities of her own. Some became successful ventures. Others led her towards a different path. That experience taught her something important: an idea can be exciting, worthwhile and even successful without necessarily being the right fit for the person pursuing it.

Karen now helps women look beyond whether an idea could work and consider whether it is genuinely aligned with their values, energy, strengths and desired life. Karen’s belief is simple: It is never too late to create a new chapter — and you do not have to create it alone.

What women have said about the Lab

“It’s a space that blends accountability with empathy, and every session offers a mix of practical insight and emotional support.”

“I’m refining my business model with more clarity and confidence and feeling less alone and more aligned.”

“A safe and supportive place to bring business goals to the table and make positive steps in making these goals a reality.”

“I appreciate the advice and wisdom from those who have gone before me and created successful businesses for themselves. That gives me confidence to keep putting myself outside my comfort zone.”

“I see the concept of a brains trust come alive in every meeting. Women come together to vulnerably spitball their ideas, while others hold space and offer valuable reflection.”

“I get as much from supporting others with their pursuits as I do from workshopping my own ideas.”
